Thoughts On Human Nature

What is it, this sensation, this overwhelming need to protect what means the most to us. For me, I feel it most over Joy. Some say that it is love, when we are stirred up with passion to defend our treasure.
Is it love? Or is it fear?
Are we wanting what is best for those we hold most dear? Or are we simply afraid of losing the security and comfort they bring to our lives? Is it what we gain from the relationship that means the most to us, or is it the person God created.
I believe that the answer lies in another question. Are we willing to die for them? Or are we only ready to kill what threatens our well-being? If we would die, then we are like Christ, reflecting the image of God we were created to bear. If we kill, arent we just operating by basic animal instincts?
Jesus loved deeper that anyone. He was ready to lay down His power, glory, even his unity with the Father, and die on behalf of those precious to Him.
His own life was worth losing for the sake of those He loved. He had no need to kill. Only to die.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you:Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:43-45a
Let the same Spirit be in us which was in Christ. Amen.
